What can I tell my friends and family if they’re unsure about me joining the police?

The police gives you a varied career and the
chance to serve your community. You’ll make a real difference to people’s lives, which is something to be proud of.

Will I have to work on the Sabbath or holy days such as Yom Kippur?

Local rosters and planning your annual leave well in advance will enable many forces to accommodate your needs. We can introduce you to shomer Shabbat officers who already have suitable flexible working agreements (rosters) in place, and help find a pattern that works for you. There is also national guidance in place from the College of Policing that encourages forces to consider workplace adjustments.

Is there access to kosher food?

You can bring your own food or, with
notice, your force should be able to provide
kosher food when appropriate.

Can I wear a kippa or sheital?

Yes, it’s a recognised part of the police uniform if headwear is worn for religious reasons.

What happens if I experience antisemitism in my role?

The police service does not tolerate any
discrimination. If you are experiencing
discrimination whilst working within policing due to your faith, get in touch with us – we’re here to help.
